DANK Haus Chicago Kinderschule was founded in 1964 and has since been the leading German Language School in the Chicagoland area. Throughout the years, the school has treasured and promoted German language and culture and served as a mainstay for building a strong German community. Kinderschule collaborates closely with the Zentralstelle für das Auslandsschulwesen (ZfA) - the German Central Agency for Schools Abroad and is a member of PASCH (Worldwide Network of German Schools).
DANK Haus Kinderschule welcomes native-born German children spending time in the USA, children of German-speaking parents who live permanently in the USA, and non-native children who are motivated to learn German. Our curriculum is carefully developed to meet the needs of different types of learners and is aligned with the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) standards for foreign language learning and the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Our committed faculty members deliver immersion language classes that foster intellectual growth and reasoning skills through fun activities and age appropriate projects.

Over the course of the school year, children in Preschool (ages 3 and 4) and Kindergarten (age 5) will be exposed to a play-based immersion language class that fosters intellectual growth and pre-literacy skills through fun activities and age appropriate projects. Learning topics include letters, numbers, family, colors, shapes, animals, etc. In addition to improving their German language, children will learn essential social and emotional skills. Children in Preschool and Kindergarten classes must be toilet trained.
Pre-Level 1 is right for your 6 year old that needs a more playful approach to beginning to learn reading and writing in German before joining the more academic Level 1 class.
Levels 1 through 8 (ages 6 through 14)
Children between the ages of 6 and 14* (*cut-off date is September 1) will build foundational language skills by receiving valuable, immersion classroom instruction tailored to the individual needs of each child. Students are placed in Levels 1 through 8 according to language ability and age. Kinderschule bases its curriculum on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Level 1 welcomes kids from last years' Kindergarten or new students ages 6+ with no/very little prior German instruction in reading/writing. For placement in levels 2 and beyond, please refer to our online placement tests (scroll down). For classes for kids ages 10+, please consider our Teen classes.
