There are over 3,500 volumes in our collection, including many rare and complete sets. 

Categories range from adult fiction to children's books, history, hobbies, poetry and drama.

And of course, we have all the classics, too! All books may be checked out.


Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00am - 4:00pm


We accept volunteers on a limited basis – those with library experience are preferred.

Library Donations FAQ:

What books are of greatest interest to your visitors?

We especially welcome contemporary fiction, and books about German immigration America, genealogy, and history.

What books are not accepted?

Our library does not accept damaged books., calendars, magazines, pamphlets, flyers, posters, CDs, vinyl records, or non-book items. Please note that these items will be recycled.

What does the DANK Haus do with books that are donated but do not fit the collection?

Any books that not accepted are sent to Better World Books, an organization which redistributes books.

Will someone pick up the books from my home?

The DANK Haus cannot pick up donations off-site. All donations must be brought into our building.

Can I show up and drop off books the next time I am in the neighborhood? 

An appointment is required for all book dropoffs. Email our Museum Director or call (773) 561-9181 ext. 4 to schedule a donation.
