    Jazz Concert - Dieter Köhnlein

Join us for an enchanted musical performance by German jazz pianist, Dieter Köhnlein. Presented in collaboration with the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany, the concert will take place in the 6th Floor Skyline Lounge of the DANK Haus. The performance will feature Köhnlein’s concert of original compositions, and it is free and open to the public.

Dieter Köhnlein, born in Ansbach, Germany in 1959, is a leading jazz pianist and composer. His style incorporates energetic performance and spontaneity that have earned him multiple awards abroad. Köhnlein studied music education at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg and has since pursued jazz, creating original compositions that he fondly calls a ‘vehicle for improvisation’. We are thrilled to have him perform at the Haus!

The concert takes place from 7 PM to 9 PM on the 6th Floor Skyline Lounge of the DANK Haus. Admission is free of charge and open to the public. Beverages and light refreshments will be available for purchase. Free parking is available in the 5/3rd Bank, located at Western and Gunnison. We are located across the street from the Western Brown Line Train Stop and there is metered parking (in 3 hour increments) on Western Avenue.

Please let us know you are attending the concert by registering in advance.

    Scharpenberg Gallery

    6:30 PM - 9:30 PM

You think you know a beer stein when you see one? They are more than just cups; "typisch deutsch" with their ornate lids and handles. Expand your idea of what makes a beer stein at our exhibit "Once Upon A Stein... Beer Steins and the Stories They Tell". The Opening Reception for the exhibition is Friday, September 20th located in our Scharpenberg Gallery. Bring a fellow beer lover to the Haus and examine highlights from the DANK Haus stein collection. Shown in all shapes and sizes, these cups are sure to spark conversations about health, gender, work, leisure, and more.

After you view the exhibit, head upstairs for a beer and a pretzel at our Stammtisch Open Haus where the stein excitement continues. Enter your personal stein into our first ever "Stein Contest" and have a chance to win a prize! Categories include: Most Unusual, Biggest and Prettiest Steins. This is a chance to show us your favorite German stein and tell us the story behind it.

Free Parking is located at 5/3 Bank at the intersection of Western and Gunnison.

Join us as we immerse ourselves in the lives and times of the Weimar Republic, the German people’s first taste of Demokratie during a period of extraordinary political, economic and societal turbulence. Tragically sandwiched between the sorry end of Bismarck’s Kaiserreich in 1919 and the very beginning of Adolf Hitler’s diabolical reign in 1933. National demoralization from defeat in war, ruinous hyperinflation via punitive war reparations and sinister political forces arrayed against democracy present Weimar with extreme challenges. Yet Weimar also gives rise to uniquely creative cultural expression which flourishes during the Golden Twenties before being strangled by the great worldwide Depression and rapid ascent of a neo-pagan, anti-Semitic and anti-democratic ideology known as National Socialism.
