The World of the Brothers Grimm

Presented by Mike Haas

If at its core Kultur can be defined as what a people choose to pass own to their children, then the folklore of the Brothers Grimm represents a vibrant tapestry of the German-speaking world's distinct pass. This presentation invites participations to journey through the landscapes that inspired these timeless tales from meandering rivers and misty valleys to ancient forests and crumbling castle ruins.

We will explore how the Brothers Grimm captured not only fairytales, but the cultural memory and moral imagination of a people. Through their stories, proverbs, and poems, we'll uncover what everyday life, beliefs, and values looked like in the 19th-century Germany--and consider how these elements of folklore continue to influence culture and storytelling today!

Join us as we take a closer look at the historical and cultural context behind the enchanted world of the Brothers Grimm.

Can't make it to the in-person presentation? Join us instead for the online presentation from the comfort of your own home on February 5th from 7 - 8:30 PM!
