Einheit: Vocal Duets & Quartets from Germany

  • Sunday, October 18, 2015
  • 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM
  • DANK Haus | 4740 N. Western Avenue | 5th Floor Marunde Ballroom

A Concert of German Duets & Quartets.
Celebrating 25 years of German Reunification.

The world watched when the Berlin Wall fell on November 9, 1989. One year later, a country divided officially reunited on October 3, 1990. Known as "Tag der Deutschen Einheit," it is celebrated as a national holiday in Germany. This year marks the 25th anniversary of German reunification. To celebrate this event, VOX 3 Collective and DANK Haus German American Cultural Center are partnering to present great musical works where voices come together as one. These duets and quartets from master composers of the 19th century will delight the ear in the wonderful acoustic of the Marunde Ballroom. Spend a Sunday afternoon exploring the beautiful rooms of the DANK Haus as part of the Chicago Architecture Foundation's Open House Chicago weekend, then stay for a lovely afternoon recital.

Enjoy two major cycles written for vocal quartet, including the popular Zigeunerlieder (Gypsy Songs) of Johannes Brahms and the intimate, lesser known Minnespiel of Robert Schumann. These are complemented by charming duets by Felix Mendelssohn and Carl Maria von Weber.

The performance takes place at 3:00pm on Sunday, October 18 in the 5th floor Marunde Ballroom at DANK Haus, 4740 N. Western Avenue. Admission is free. A suggested donation of $10 is welcomed.
